Where Did We Put That? How to Share Your Home Inventory with Family and Roommates

Stop asking "Where did we put that?" Learn how Rivulet lets you share your home inventory via secure invite codes with read-only privacy and room-level control.

Every household has had this conversation:

“Where are the winter blankets?”

“Do we still have extra HDMI cables in the office?”

“Did you pack the camping gear in the basement or the attic?”

When living with a partner, family, or flatmates, keeping track of where items live shouldn't require text messages or searching through dusty storage boxes.

With Things in Rivulet, you can now securely share your home inventory with anyone under your roof—cleanly, privately, and in seconds.

Simple, Private, and Calm

Sharing in Rivulet is built from the ground up for peace of mind:

10-Character Invite Code

No clunky email invites, public links, or account lookups. Rivulet generates an encrypted, single-use invite code. Your housemate enters it under Join Shared Things and gets instant access.

Room-Level Granularity

Want to share the Living Room, Kitchen, and Storage Room with flatmates, but keep your Bedroom or Office private? Use the room selector dropdown to choose exactly what they see.

View-Only Protection

Invited members receive structured View-only access. They can search items, browse rooms, and find what they need without the risk of accidentally moving items or altering your setup.

Temporary & Secure

Codes expire automatically after 48 hours and are single-use. Once redeemed, the invite code is destroyed. You can also revoke access anytime with a single tap.

How to Share Your Things in 3 Steps

  1. Open Things and tap Share

Navigate to the Things tab in your Rivulet app and tap the Share Things icon in the header.

  2. Choose Entire Home or Specific Rooms

Select whether to share your Entire Home or tap the room scope dropdown to pick individual shared spaces (like Kitchen, Basement, or Living Room).

  3. Send or Copy Your Invite Code

Tap Send Invite Code or copy the formatted 10-character code and text it to your partner or flatmate.

Once your partner or flatmate opens Rivulet and enters the code, your shared spaces and items appear directly in their app.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can shared members edit or delete my inventory?

No. Sharing in Things is View-only. They can search and locate items, but cannot delete items, edit descriptions, or modify your rooms.

What happens if an invite code isn’t used?

Each invite code is valid for 48 hours. If it expires before being redeemed, simply tap New code in the Share screen to generate a fresh one.

Can I stop sharing at any time?

Yes. In the Share screen, you will see a list of everyone who has access. Tap the trash icon next to any person to revoke their access instantly.
